The candidate will enter a 500 hour apprenticeship program (30-40 hours per week, plus overtime if needed or desired) learning the skilled trade of refinishing furniture. During the apprenticeship program, the candidate will be taught and coached through each step of the furniture refinishing process. Your coach will be working right alongside you giving you tips on workshop efficiency, refinishing techniques, identifying wood species/veneer, how to use and maintain workshop tools, basic furniture repair techniques, etc.
Once the candidate successfully completes the 500 hour program, he/she will graduate to the position of Refinishing Technician and will be given a raise to reflect the skills learned in the apprenticeship program. The raise will also reflect the candidates ability to work independently, efficiently, and creatively.
After graduating from the apprentice program, the Refinishing Technician will be responsible for all workshop production including sanding, painting, staining, and lacquer/clear coating furniture that will be displayed on our showroom floor. The Refinishing Tech must have the ability to juggle multiple projects at once and will be able to display a high level of focus and attention to details.
The candidate will need to have the physical ability to move large pieces of furniture using dollies, carts, etc. You will also be on your feet nearly 100% of the time, so we recommend having comfortable shoes with steel toes. You will be provided with safety equipment such as a respirator, safety glasses, gloves and ear protection.
As the business grows, the Refinishing Technician will serve as the Coach and Mentor for the next Apprentice that enters the program and will be responsible for teaching these skills to their new cohort(s). Successful Technicians will grow into roles such as Refinishing Lead, Assistant Shop Manager, Shop Manager, and Operations Manager.
