Materials & Finishes

American Hardwoods

We use some of the best Hardwoods harvested right here in the USA!!! It is becoming more rare to find real hardwood furniture anymore. Anything that you find at your local big box store is going to have MDF with veneer or engineered wood that looks suspiciously like real wood. They are being manufactured overseas to keep their cost low and profits high.

We use Hardwoods like Rustic Alder, Ash, Cherry, Red Oak, Maple, Hickory, Walnut, and White Oak. Unlike our competitors, we intend to build something that will last generations; something that you can pass down to your grandkids.

Finishes

You'll find a handful of our most popular stains that our clients get on the Customizer page. However, you can get anything that you want. To get something that is not on our website, you'll need to call on store to place your order at (859) 91-7654.

Just note that every wood species will stain differently. So, we recommend that you order stain samples if you are unsure.

Minwax Wood Finish is a penetrating, oil-based stain that enhances wood grain with rich color in just one coat.

Protective Clear Coat

In our shop, we spray Masters Armor Conversion Varnish by Old Masters. This product is much more durable than any water-based Polycrylic or polyurethane that our custom furniture builder competitors are using.

This is a two part system that uses a hardener mixed with the varnish. We spray 3 coats for maximum durability. This finish is meant for flooring, counter tops, bar tops, table tops and other high traffic areas.

This finish is water resistant to a point! We have tested this with leaving a cup of ice and red wine over night and it had no affect. No rings, water marks, stains, etc. HOWEVER, to maximize the longevity of your furniture we recommend using placemats and coasters for drinks. If you don't use coasters, just be sure to wipe up any spills or water from the furniture. This finish isn't heat resistant. Just remember, this is real wood, not metal or stone. You will need to use placemats, hot pads, trivets, etc. to avoid any heat rings.

As long as you are caring for your furniture, your finish will last a long time.

We use a satin sheen as it looks best on furntiure without it looking to glossy. If you would like a different sheen, please contact our office before ordering at (859)-910-7654.

Paint Product

We have been testing and researching the best paint products to withstand the everyday use along with something that is easy to clean.

Sherwin-Wiliams Pro Industrial™ Multi-Surface Acrylic is specifically engineered to provide high hide and good stain resistance. This is a self-priming and provides an alkyd-like hardness.

We use this in a semi-gloss, as we have found this the best surface to easily clean and maintain.

If you are wanting a piece to be distressed, we use the satin/matte sheen. The stain sheen will sand chalky and achieve a better distressed finish over the semi-gloss. The semi-gloss will show too much scratches from the sand paper in the distressing process.

We have a handful of our most popular paint colors on our customizer tool, however, you can select any Sherwin-Williams paint color that you would like and call us to let us know.

For chairs that are etnirely painted, we use Renner Italia wood coating with a 2K hardener which provides extra protection. This paint is used on high end cabinetry and furntiure. It's extremely durable and long lasting.
